Dr. Joanne Smith-Burke
PhD, MSc, BSc
Dr. Joanne Smith-Burke is a Senior Lecturer of the Epidemiology Research Unit of the Caribbean Institute of Health Research. She is a member of the Child Development Research Group.
She is a qualified nutritionist with a strong background in academia, research and practice. She earned her BSc in Human Ecology with a minor in Psychology from the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine. She later pursued an MSc in Nutrition at the Tropical Metabolism Research Unit (TMRU) of the University of the West Indies, followed by a PhD in Nutrition at the same institution.
Dr. Smith-Burke joined the Caribbean Institute for Health Research (CAIHR) in 2005. Her research has focused on energy metabolism in free-living individuals and the holistic development of children. She has extensive training in various methods of assessing both energy intake and energy expenditure. More recently, she has expanded her expertise to include cognitive assessment and child development.
